Out on the weekend

‘Ours was the marsh country…’ Great Expectations

North Norfolk: Vaughan Williams’ In the Fen Country. Waterland, by Graham Swift. The Gyptians of Philip Pullman’s Northern Lights secreting a twelve-year-old Lyra, the best heroine. Norfolk and its marshy strata reclaimed from the sea. Its shingle beaches and its sand beaches. Its enormous skies and ribbons of geese. This is a place I love, and one which I love to write and read about.

Halfway House, Blakeney Point.

Seal pup on the shingle.

Rescuing countless starfish, stranded by the outgoing tide. They cling on to the shingle rather sweetly.

Evening light over Morston.

The Priory at Binham.

Walking out from Burham Overy Staithes.
